Join The Brinton Museum for the first program in our Fall into Art series, presented in conjunction with The Unfinished War: The Battle of the Little Bighorn in Native American Art.

Art historian Ramey Mize, Susan G. Detweiler Associate Curator at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, will explore the work of Lakota artist Stephen Standing Bear and his powerful muslin paintings depicting the Battle of the Little Bighorn.

These works, created as visual testimony, offer insight into personal and cultural perspectives on the events at Greasy Grass. Through close examination, this program will consider how Standing Bear’s muslins function as both historical record and artistic expression.

The Brinton Museum’s collection includes a Standing Bear muslin featured in The Unfinished War, making this program a unique opportunity to deepen engagement with a key work in the exhibition.
